ABOUT HOMEOPATHY

Let's learn more about Homoeopathy. Homoeopathy originated in Europe. It is based on the principal “Similia Similibus Curanter” which means "like cures like". It was developed in Germany and has been practiced in the United States since the early 19th century. It seeks to stimulate the body's ability to heal itself by giving very small doses of highly diluted substances that in larger doses would produce illness or symptoms (an approach called "like cures like”. The term homeopathy comes from the Greek words homoeo, meaning similar, and pathos, meaning suffering. It seeks to stimulate the body's defense mechanisms and processes so as to prevent or treat illness.According to this science, no two people are treated exactly alike, even if they have similar symptoms. This treatment is similar to how a vaccination or immunization works. The immune system becomes stimulated with tiny doses of diluted substances. These diluted substances then help the body build its own defenses.

Homoeopathic Remedies

Homoeopathic Remedies can be effective for chronic conditions, which include those relating to the immune system, nervous system, hormonal system, or other complex disorders. Homeopathic remedies are derived from natural substances which may include minerals, plants or animals. The homeopathic remedy is prepared by diluting the initial substance and then activating it. This process is called potentization whereby the remedy is diluted with alcohol or water. All Homoeopathic remedies in USA are FDA approved and available over the counter without a prescription. They are prepared according to the guidelines written in the US Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia. You can buy  homeopathic remedies online if you wish to.

Principals of Homoeopathy

Similia~ the similimum is the remedy which causes the symptoms similar to the state of the individual

Simplex~ only one homeopathic remedy is to be used at one time

Minima~ this means the least amount of homeopathic ingredients should be used for maximum effect

History

In the late 1700s, Samuel Hahnemann, a physician, chemist, and linguist in Germany, proposed a new approach to treating illness. This was at a time when the most common medical treatments were harsh, such as bloodletting, purging, blistering, and the use of sulfur and mercury. He was very disappointed by these treatments. Hahnemann was interested in developing a less-threatening approach. The first major step reportedly was when he was translating Cullens Materia Medica and read aboult a treatment (cinchona bark) used to cure malaria. He took some cinchona bark for few days and observed that, as a healthy person, he developed symptoms that were very similar to malaria symptoms. This led Hahnemann to consider that a substance may create symptoms that it can also relieve. This concept is called the "similia principle" or "like cures like." The similia principle had a prior history in medicine, from Hippocrates in Ancient Greece--who noted, for example, that recurrent vomiting could be treated with an emetic (such as ipecacuanha) that would be expected to make it worse--to folk medicine. Another way to view "like cures like" is that symptoms are part of the body's attempt to heal itself--for example, a fever can develop as a result of an immune response to an infection, and a cough may help to eliminate mucus--and medication may be given to support this self-healing response.

Hahnemann tested single, pure substances on himself and, in more dilute forms, on healthy volunteers. All these remedies were proved on healthy human beings and not animals. He kept diluting the remedies so as to have least side effects. He kept meticulous records of his experiments and participants' responses, and he combined these observations with information from clinical practice. All his records on how to use Homeopathic remedies are in his book Organon and Philosophy. After he formulated his theory many practicing allopaths converted themselves to homeopaths and started using it for their patients. To name a few are Dr J T Kent, Dr J H Clarke, Dr Boneinghausen, Dr C Hering etc. They all held a MD degree of their times. The World Health Organization noted in 1994 that it had been integrated into the national health care systems of numerous countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Mexico. It is becoming famous again in the USA.
